February Update

George Oud

February has brought in some exciting news along with the usual chilly weather! I have been a musician for a long time and beginning last year I rekindled a love of acting and live theater.

This began when I answered an unlikely ad seeking an oud player. I was hired onto the The Bitsy Stage’s show The Silent Princess: A Turkish Tale , which was my first experience with a children’s theater, and gave me the acting bug all over again.

Following the Bitsy show, that bug has led me to some awesome new opportunities. I’m honored to announce I’ll be part of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s upcoming Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit! Featuring twenty of the original scrolls – the oldest known copies of the Jewish bible in existence – this unique exhibit bridges history, religion, and politics and has something to captivate everyone. The exhibit will run from March 16 to September 3, 2018. You can learn more and purchase tickets at http://www.dmns.org/dead-sea-scrolls/.

In other acting news, I just finished a great run of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night with the Queen City Players! In April I will be lending my talents to Equinox Theater’s Production of Reefer Madness: The Musical, a hilarious show spoofing the popular 1920’s propaganda film of the same name. Featuring sensual jazz music, zombies, and even an appearance from Jesus himself, this is one you don’t want to miss! The show will run Fridays and Saturdays April 6-28th, 2018 at the Bug Theater. Whew! That’s a lot going on already, and that’s just acting news! In music news, I am pleased to announce I will be performing as Principal Violist for the Broomfield Symphony Orchestra’s February concert Music from the Opera, featuring overtures, intermezzos, and ballet works by Mozart, Bizet, Puccini, Verdi, and more! I’d liken this show to a fancy dinner with lots of small delectable dishes. The performance will be held at 7:30pm at the Broomfield Auditorium on Sunday, Feb. 18th. I’ve also been working hard with some talented friends to form a new world-fusion Jazz group – the Phoenician Feathers – which debuted on Feb 1st at Syntax Physic Opera. The band is an original blend of tango, flamenco, jazz, latin, and middle eastern music. Our next show will be in March, stay tuned for updates and follow us on facebook at facebook.com/phofeathers. Here’s our opening number from the show, my original song Tango De Nostalgia!

That’s all for now!
